Julius Randle To Host Nine In-Home Visits

Aug 31, 2012 8:59 PM

Julius Randle will have nine in-home visits over a two-week period beginning on September 9th.

Both N.C. State and Kentucky will visit Randle on the first day. North Carolina, Duke and Kansas will visit on September 10th, 11th and 12th respectively. Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Texas and Florida will visit one week later.

“We want to give everyone a fair chance because these are the final schools that made his top 10,” Randle's mother Carolyn Kyles said. “We want to give all of them a fair chance to present their school, what they have to offer, what they have to offer Julius as far as helping him improve his skills and get him to the next level on the court and off the court, who is the best coach for him to get him there and continue to instill the values that I have all these years off the court.

Chris Jones, a 5-foot-10, 170-pound guard who played two years at Northwest Florida State, has narrowed his list of possible college destinations to Memphis, Louisville, Kansas, Baylor, Florida State and Oklahoma State.

"Every coach on my list is just gonna let me play my game, they tell me they're gonna put the ball in my hands, and I can win at each program," Jones said. "Each coach is willing to get me to the next level."

Jones will visit each school besides Memphis, as the Memphis native has been on campus multiple times, and then sign in November's early signing period.

"Chris has managed the recruiting process well," Northwest Florida State coach Steve Forbes said. "I'm proud of him. He's made himself accessible and he got to know the coaches as best he could. When he came in my office (Friday), he had a really good idea of where he was at."

Xavier Rathan-Mayes Focusing On Six Schools

Aug 16, 2012 10:42 AM

Xavier Rathan-Mayes is focused on six schools at this point in his recruitment.

“It’s tough,” Rathan-Mayes’ stepfather, Tharon Mayes said. “He’s getting calls from everywhere. I think he’s finally got it down to five or six schools he’s interested in.”

Those schools are Florida State, UConn, Memphis, Baylor, Alabama and UCLA.

Rathan-Mayes has already taken an unofficial visit to UConn, but Tharon is wary of whether Jim Calhoun will return for the 2013-14 season.

“It’s a concern,” Tharon said. “He likes Kevin Ollie. Kevin’s been speaking to him, it’s definitely a school of interest. But that is something that’s a little scary.”

Calipari, Scott Drew Perceived By Peers As Biggest Cheaters In College Basketball

Aug 10, 2012 11:05 AM

Kentucky's John Calipari and Baylor's Scott Drew are perceived by their peers as the biggest cheaters in college basketball.

Calipari received 36 percent of the vote, while 34 percent responded Drew.

"Cal probably doesn't have to cheat now as much as he used to, but he's still the standard," said one coach. "The rest of us can't even deal in his league. He's the best."

Drew has been head coach of Baylor since 2003.

"I don't even have to blink when I say the answer," said one coach of Drew. "He's despised by a lot of people because he comes off holier than God. Meanwhile, everyone knows he's had to cheat big-time to get the program to where it's at. If it wasn't for the God stuff he wouldn't rub people the wrong way as much."

Ben Howland of UCLA received 12 percent and Jim Calhoun received seven percent of the votes.

"I've had many conversations with other coaches about [what's believed to be going on at UCLA]," said one coach. "And this is from me, someone not even recruiting the West Coast."

Aug 8, 2012 12:44 PM

Isaiah Austin, an incoming freshman at Baylor, had an impressive showing at the Adidas Nations camp last weekend.

"I think he's a better prospect than Perry Jones or Quincy Miller," one NBA scout said. "I wish he was 25 pounds heavier and I wish Baylor had guards that would get him the ball, but I do think he's got a chance to be the best freshman in his class."

Austin is a seven-foot center.
